The Target Class serves as an introduction to the Life Skills Experience. Target provides opportunities for participants to learn basic golf concepts and life skills before committing the time required to succeed in more advanced First Tee programs. Target promotes curiosity about the game through a safe and fun environment. Target is built around six components that are brought to life through activities centered on the game of golf.
- Take Aim - introduces participants to a safe and fun experience designed to spark their curiousity about golf. Take Aim emphasizes that golf is a target-oriented game which involves striking a ball with a club to get the ball into a hole in the fewest number of strokes
- Anyone Can Play - highlights the diversity of people who can play the game, the environment where the game is played, and the strategies used to play the game.
- Respect - guides participants through activities that emphasize respect for themselves, others, the rules of the game and the environment.
- Golf Is a Game - emphasizes the planning and decision making skills that are necessary to identify and overcome challenges to golf-related targets.
- Enjoy Yourself - reinforces the premise that being patient and having a positive attitude toward learning can make golf or almost any activity fun.
- Try It - provides closure for TARGET by giving participants specific information on how to pursue their ongoing interest in the game of golf and participation in The First Tee Life Skills Experience. It also encourages participants to pursue new and challenging activities outside the golf course setting. |
